I haven't traveled with it yet but the size (not much bigger than a tennis racket) should make it easy to deal with for either air or ground travel.Īll that said, I do prefer a 12" pot so I'm looking at selling this one and upgrading - haven't listed it anywhere yet but may do so in the next week or two. I keep it in open G rather than A tuning and it sounds and feels just fine - easier to play with both steel and nylon strings - while still being easy to tune to A or C.

The smaller overall size is a plus for me - bad shoulders from "stuff" in the military and I really enjoy playing it alongside a couple other entry-level banjos I've picked up recently. That was an easy operation since I have all the necessary tools, and by doing it carefully I was able to accommodate the nylon strings and still keep the slots at a good size for normal steel strings so I think I can swap back and forth without replacing or adjusting either nut or bridge. I love the difference it makes but did have to widen a couple of the slots in the nut and bridge to keep the nylon strings from binding. steel for beginner clawhammer players (which I definitely am) to play with the relative ease of play, etc. Next, I put on a set of nylon strings both for the mellower tone they provide and just because I wanted to experiment with them after reading a lot of posts on this site about nylon vs. When I got it it was really dirty and needed a good overall cleaning and head adjustment so I stripped it down, cleaned and reassembled everything and it really came to life - I don't have that much to compare it to but I am a guitar builder and am very familiar with acoustic instruments so the difference was obvious and even better than I had hoped for. I have a GoldTone CC-OTA which, like Brian above with his Saga, I like very much. I would recommend the Saga, which is a lot of banjo at that price point. I put a strap and an arm rest on the banjo, and it works fine. The C-scale Saga, A-scale conversion, and G-scale Reiter make a nice family of banjos.

It looks very much like my Bart Reiter Special and my Little Wonder conversion A-scale. The style of the banjo neck and peghead are similar to the old Vega style, which I like very much. The photo on the web site showed a glossy peghead finish, but mine came with a matte finish, which I like better. They hold a tuning well and operate smoothly.

Some people have complained about the tuners on the Saga, but I have had no problems with them so far.

I like the fact that the pot is a full sized 11" pot and not smaller like some of the other travel banjos. This Pisgah Banjos - 11' Wonder Short Scale is clear, articulate with nice punchy tone all without being harsh.Featuring an elegant S-scoop for easy access and comfy frailing over the fingerboard. It has nice round hooks instead of those cheap, flat hooks that come on so many inexpensive banjos. The pot thickness was advertised as 1/2" on the web, but the banjo I got has a 5/8" thick pot. I have a Saga SS10p Pony banjo that I bought last year.
